London Legal Walk, 18th October

This is a wonderful event - a 10k late afternoon walk, either through the parks or along the river. We have fielded a strong team for several years. Coronavirus rules permitting, the London Legal Walk returns this year, on 18th October. Put it in your diary, warm up your work colleagues and hopefully we can have a great time together to raise funds for our charities.

Kilimanjaro trek 2021

We are delighted to be working with Action Challenge to offer supporters the opportunity to walk in a group to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, while raising much needed money for the tax charities. Please see the attached information brochure for more information and how to book a place.

We have a team booked to go, though there are still some places remaining. So, if you or any of your people have any queries, or are interested in joining the trip, please contact Tina Riches tina@richestax.co.uk

This will be challenging trek for our team. If you would like to recognise their efforts and sponsor the team please go to our group page at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/Tax2020Kili

The Supremes: Baroness Hale and Lord Hodge

Last year we held two superb virtual events with leading figures from the Supreme Court. In July, Baroness Hale gave some fascinating insights, in conversation with John Whiting; and a few weeks ago Lord Hodge spoke to BTG friends about current issues for the Supreme Court. We are grateful to Freshfields and to Slaughter and May who each hosted one of these events for us.

If you have an idea for an event, or your are organising or participating in an external event to raise funds for the tax charities, then please get in touch with Rose Over (rose.over@taxvol.org.uk). If you tell Rose about it in advance we can help spread the word and give you some recognition - so pictures for the website and newsletter please!

Virtual Marathon Relay

Disappointed that the London Marathon was cancelled on 26 April, six ladies from the running club Fairlands Valley Spartans wanted to do something to mark the occasion and raise some much needed funds for charity as charities have been hit so hard during the current crisis. Michelle came up with the idea of running a Virtual Marathon Relay. Between the six of us, we aimed to complete the marathon distance, within in 3 hours, which meant running 4.37miles each, one after the other - live streaming as much of it as we could so our supporters could watch from their homes and cheer us on! Our baton (a wooden spoon) started in Hampshire at 10am with Ella, before making it's way up to Hertfordshire for the next four legs of the relay run by Michelle, Sam, Gail and Suzy, and finally over to Virginia, US for the final leg run by Ashley.

We completed our challenge in 2:54:43, smashing our 3 hour target and raising over £1,600 to be split between Bridge the Gap and Age UK. We also had a lot of fun doing it and it was great to be able to run with our team mates, albeit virtually.

Team members:

Ella-May Hards, Michelle Reeves, Samantha Pretty-Connors, Gail Mackie, Suzy Hawkins, Ashley King.
